The 2014 MCE British Superbike Championship (BSB) had an exciting but wet opening round over the weekend at Brands Hatch with Rock supported riders producing some fantastic results.
Qualifying finished with Ryuichi Kiyonari (Buildbase BMW) second with 55.796s, James Westmoreland (Buildbase BMW) fifth with 56.297s, seventh for Ben Wilson (Gearlink Kawasaki) with 56.936s and Michael Dunlop (Buildbase BMW) managing twelth with a respectable 57.789s.
The first race was restarted after James Hillier suffered engine problems putting oil onto the track. Ben Wilson (Gearlink Kawasaki) made his mark achieving a formidable fourth place finishing only 5.639s behind the race leader. 2014 is Gearlink Kawasaki's first entry into the BSB so it's an sensational beginning to the season for Wilson and the team.
James Westmoreland (Buildbase BMW) finished in 10th place, 7.735s back. An impressive finish considering his crash on the final (and very wet) practice session earlier in the weekend.
Ryuichi Kiyonari (Buildbase BMW) stalled his S1000RR on the starting line, so the restart gave him another chance to get back in the running. In the restarted race Kiyonari managed to gain 12 places achieving 16th position.
In race two Kiyonari achieved an impressive fourth place 3.694s behind the race leader, matching Buildbase BMW's best result in the BSB so far and cementing his place after a difficult season in 2013. James Westmoreland managed to gain three positions from race one to reach seventh in the race. Ben Wilson (Gearlink Kawasaki) was unable to capture the magic from race one dropping back to tenth position, although it's still a fantastic start so far for Ben and we're excited to see how he'll get on as the season progresses.
As always, we wish all Rock riders and teams the greatest success in the championship, we hope to see even stronger results at Oulton Park. A great start all round and a fantastic beginning to the 2014 BSB!
The countdown is running as round one of the British Superbike Championship opens this Easter weekend at Brands Hatch. The three day event at the hallowed Indy circuit is sure to be one of the highlights of the racing year.
Within the 32 bikes on the grid at Brands, we have some familiar Rock Oil partners and teams competing for the championship.
For Buildbase BMW we have James Westmoreland, Ryuichi Kiyonari and Michael Dunlop competing. James has been competing since 2007 within the BSB and achieved a noteworthy fifth position in the final standings of the 2013 championship. Michael Dunlop is a veteran 7 time Isle of Man TT winner, who will be guest racing on short circuit for the first few rounds for Buildbase BMW. Giving the mainland UK public a chance to see a TT racing legend in action. Ryuichi Kiyonari has been active within the BSB since 2004 winning the title in 2006, 2007 and 2010 respectively, achieving sixth position in the 2013 championship. Ryuichi is joining Buildbase BMW for the first time in 2014, his first race with a manufacturer other than Honda.
Ben Wilson is representing Gearlink Kawasaki, this will be Ben's first year in the premier superbike class. In recent years Ben has been competing in the British Supersport Championships achieving 12 wins overall, narrowly missing out on the title in 2011.
Jon Kirkham will be riding for Tsingtao WK Kawasaki. Jon has two BSB race wins to his credit and came 7th in the 2013 championship, with his first race in the BSB back in 2003. Tsingtao WK Kawasaki entered the BSB towards the end of 2013, which should make for interesting viewing as they continue to challenge the established teams and riders in the premier class.
Last but not least we have Simon Andrews representing RAF Reserves Honda. We're glad to see Simon has recovered from serious injuries sustained during the final Endurance World Championship race in 2013. This will also mark the first time Simon has been involved in the BSB since 2011, previously peaking in 2009 with a podium finish at Cadwell Park.
We wish all Rock riders and teams well for the 2014 championship.

Since the 2006 event the later shows were held in an exhibition hall in Gießen and now this year, the MotoTrade show has been held in the Messe Kassel. With the 2014 show taking up around 5000m² in floor space, it's great to see the event growing consistently in popularity and size each year.
Agnes and her team were pleased to exhibit the latest range of motorcycle products and launch the Dirtblaster bike cleaner to the German market. More than 1700 dealers visited the MotoTrade show with 92 exhibitors from Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands, United Kingdom, France, Italy and Hungary.
Rock Oil is delighted to announce the continuation of their racing partnership with Stuart Hicken’s Buildbase BMW team in both the BSB championship and in major road events such as the Isle of Man TT races. The two man BSB team of James Westmorland and Ryuichi Kiyonari will be seeking both race wins and to qualify for the Superbike showdown at the end of the season whilst on the roads Michael Dunlop will ride a BMW Superbike under Hawk Racing. Stuart’s bikes will be running Synthesis Motorcycle 5W40 during 2014.
We are also delighted to announce the partnership with Buildbase Honda Motocross team, managed by Dave Thorpe, will continue in 2014. David has long run his bikes with Rock Oil and we are pleased to continue the relationship with a very exciting line up of Elliot Banks Brown, Brad Anderson and Nez Parker. All three riders are potential champions in waiting and all will be seeking to win races from the off. In fact Elliot has already got the winning feeling after winning the 4th round of the arenacross series recently. The Buildbase Honda boys will again be using Synthesis XRP Off Road 10W40 to power their racing Honda’s.
Other 2014 race partners will be confirmed in the coming weeks.

The 2014 Motorcycle Trade Expo has been a great opportunity for Rock Oil to generate new enquiries and promote our latest products. Sunday and Monday were especially busy with visits from sponsored racers and friends in the motorcycle trade.
Distributors and staff talked to to customers and visitors alike on a range of subjects regarding our Rock Oil motorcycle range, with many staying for a quick refreshment from our much-loved hospitality bar.
We are looking forward to a busy and positive 2014 with plans on expanding the website and social media aspects of Rock Oil further. Along with new and exciting products to compliment the recently repackaged motorcycle range.
Rock Oil's latest motorcycle brochure is now available to view online on the motorcycle lubricant section. The brochure itself is available in two separate PDF formats: low-res for mobile/smart-phone downloads and a high-res version for desktop use.
The new brochure includes information across the whole motorcycle lubricant range including road, off-road, scooter and support products.
As a 'blast from the past' below is a scan of one of the 1984 era Rock Oil motorcycle lubricant brochures. Although the lubricant range has developed and grown since, motorcycle racing and the support of riders is still just as important to Rock Oil now as it was back then.
Click the images below to see a larger version of each page in the 1984 brochure, including stories on "Top American International rider Gary Rabe now selling Rock Oil in the USA." Then a flourishing relationship that still continues strongly today in 2014.
Following a great 2013 with success in both sales and racing, Rock Oil would like to wish our trading partners and friends a Happy New Year and a great 2014.
From the 19th to the 21st of January Rock Oil will be exhibiting at the Motorcycle Trade Show Expo at the NEC in Birmingham. We will be showcasing packaging changes along with new products, ready to answer your queries and generate interest for our motorcycle range. We look forward to meeting potential new customers on the stand and catching up with some existing friends and customers too.
Rock Oil will be at Stand 742, near to the bike display at the back of the hall. Visitors information for directions and accomodation can be found on the Expo 2014 website.
In the latest issue of Superbike Magazine (December 2013) our very own Technical Manager Martyn Waterhouse is the resident expert on-hand to answer motorcycle lubricant and fuel queries sent in by readers of the magazine.
Featured in a two page spread, Martyn answers questions ranging from his feelings on synthetic oil use and the differences between "bike oil and a good car oil".
Rock Oil recently played host to World Speedway Champion Tai Woffinden when he called to thank us for our support of his racing efforts during 2013. We were also delighted to confirm our long term support of the World Champion and look forward to working with him when he defends his title in 2014. Tai is extremely popular with not just speedway fans but all motorsports fans due to his riding style and his media friendly persona.
