The Rock Oil Supported 2015 MCE British Superbike Championship came to Snetterton for the fourth round, with Rock supported teams achieving two race wins!!!
Morello Racing's Josh Elliott had a fantastic race to take his second win for the Pirelli National Superstock 1000cc Championship and built on his title lead from three points to twelve.
Josh Elliott said: "I knew I was faster through the last sector of the circuit and I’d been waiting to make my move. I got ahead a couple of times during the race but got close to Alastair at Coram on the final lapand went up the inside at the chicane. I actually thought he’d come back by in the slipstream and drag to the line but I held on and it’s amazing to take my second win of the year, not just for myself but also for the team at their local track."
Steve Buckenham, Team Owner: "Josh again proved what a class act he is today and I’m running out of superlatives for him. Dougie and his dad made a couple of changes to the bike in morning warm-up to give it a bit more stability on the brakes and the plan was to hound Alastair all the way and make a move at the end. He did exactly that and knew he had the better corner speed to go round the outside at the final corner and get the drive out. The plan worked perfectly and it was a superb win."
Peter Hickman and the RAF Reserves BMW team managed twelth and fifteenth place finishes from the two British Superbike Championship races. Starting from 21st on the grid Hickman put in a sterling ride, battling to the end he was duly rewarded with twelth place. On the second race he started from fifteenth position, with a difficult start being pushed back to ninteenth. Fighting hard, he was able to get back to fifteenth place to score another championship point by the end of the race.
Peter Hickman: "It’s been a tough weekend and with qualifying not going to plan, it put us on the back foot for race day. In the first race, I got away well and had a good first lap so to finish 12th from 21st on the grid was pretty pleasing. I started higher up in the second race, 15th, but got completely bullied on the first lap and pushed backwards and it was hard work from there on in. There wasn’t much I could do but managed to claw my way back up to 15th for a solitary point despite losing a bit of power. It’s not the weekend we wanted but we’ll move on to the next round and see how we go."
Lee Hardy, Team Owner: "It’s definitely been a tough day at the office and whilst you always want to do well at one of your local rounds, nothing’s really gone for us this weekend. We tried to put on something special for everyone and Peter’s ride in the first race, going from 21st to 12th, was certainly a very good effort. It was points on the board which is exactly what we needed but times are so close this season throughout the field that every race is hard. We got another point in race two but we’ll regroup for the next round and look to get back at the sharp end."
Gearlink Kawasaki's Glenn Irwin secured fifth place and gained his first win of the season in race two on Sunday. Ben Wilson had a difficult weekend because of technical issues with his bike, and Luke Hedger came sixth in race one and secured his first ever British Supersport podium with third in race two.
Irwin began in fourth position in the qualifying session for the sprint race on Saturday. Caught out by a brief rain shower, Glenn ended up losing control of his bike and crashed. Thankfully he was able to remount and was forced to start the race from the pit lane. Even with this disadvantage Irwin raced hard and got to fourteenth after the first lap, managing a well deserved fifth place by the end of ten laps. In the main race on Sunday Irwin started fifth but sat in third for most of the race. However, on the last lap the first and second place riders collided, helping Glenn to secure the win.
Glenn Irwin: "Firstly I would like to dedicate this win to the recovery of my close friends Jamie Hamilton and Stephen Thompson. Secondly a huge thank you to the Gearlink Kawasaki team and K-Tech who managed to turn the bike around and we are now where we need to be with a little bit of fine tuning. I know the team will be working hard now to progress on any weak points we had this weekend and move forwards and work towards being able to win the title."
Round five sees the Championship heading north to Knockhill in Scotland on the third 'til the fifth of July.
The Rock Oil sponsored MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship roars in to Snetterton this weekend, for the annual race on the 300 circuit. With over six weeks since the last outing at Oulton Park, the riders are chomping at the bit to get back on the track and start racing.
Fresh from his success at the IOM TT, Rock Oil supported rider Peter Hickman for RAF Reserves BMW will be seeking to rediscover his early season pace, and get back to challenging for podiums in the main BSB class. Elsewhere other Rock supported teams such as Gearlink Kawasaki, Morello Racing and Motodex BMW will all be striving to continue early season promise and compete at the sharp end of their respective classes.
The event begins on Friday 19th June with practice races, qualifying races on the Saturday with the main raceday on Sunday the 21st. The main MCE BSB action is supported by the Motorpoint British Supersport Championship, Pirelli National Superstock 1000 and 600 Championship and British Motostar over the weekend. We're hoping for some great weather and fantastic racing all round!
